What is a Harvest Basket? Our Harvest Basket weekly subscription is a form of CSA. Although it includes a weekly basket of seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits it is much more.
Our Harvest Basket subscription is a relationship between consumer and farmer. It is a direct connection to where your food comes from. You will know your farmer and feel confident that the food you receive has been cared for without the use of synthetic herbicides or pesticides.
Our Harvest Basket establishes that close connection to food we all desire when in today's society the lack of labeling standards makes it often difficult to know for sure where food is coming from.
Our Harvest Basket is an environmentally responsible stewardship of the land in a time when it's more important than ever.
Our Harvest Basket subscribers become part of a community of families who share common interests and help support small scale sustainable agriculture.
Will I get to see the farm? Yes, each season we have a harvest basket gathering which will include a farm tour. At the gathering you will have a chance to walk the fields, sample the produce right off the vine, show your family where it is grown, see the high tunnels, meet other harvest basket customers, meet our family and ask us any questions you want.
How are your vegetables and fruits grown? We use certified organic, heirloom, untreated, and non-GMO/GE seed. We farm with respect to the land and plants without the use of synthetic herbicides or pesticides. And no synthetic fertilizers are ever used. We use natural and sustainable farming practices.
How long is the season? The 2010 season is 26 weeks long. The first basket is the first week of May and the last basket is the last week of October.
What will be in my weekly basket? The produce in the basket will vary as the season progresses. In May the baskets will contain 3 or more items and be about half the volume as the main season baskets. The smaller basket size for May is due to the limited variety of things we can harvest at that time of year. During the main season (June through October) your basket will contain a variety of 6 or more fresh picked vegetables and fruits that are harvested at that time of year. Our products page can give you an idea of what types of products to expect.
Do all subscribers get the same things each week? The baskets will be primarily the same, but there may be some differences based on what is available each week.
Do I get to select the vegetables that go into my basket? The baskets are prepared for you each week. One of the many advantages of the harvest basket is getting to experience vegetable that you may not normally purchase.
